Eric Clopper Was Banned From Presenting At Intact 2022
Sources report that Eric Clopper was silenced by Eliyahu Ungar-Sargon.
Eric Clopper, a well-known intactivist and former Harvard lecturer, was banned from speaking at Intact 2022, Intact America’s genital autonomy conference.
Sources close to the organizers say that Clopper’s presentation on his performance of “Sex & Circumcision: An American Love Story” was rejected due to pressure from Eliyahu Ungar-Sargon, a founding member of the Jewish organization Bruchim who has participated in multiple hit pieces on Clopper.
Ungar-Sargon has attacked Clopper’s work repeatedly, including a major documentary by The Guardian in which he called the leadership of the intactivist movement “alt right.” Clopper responded by suggesting that Ungar-Sargon has lied about the intactivist movement because of his greater loyalty to Jewish interests.
Ungar-Sargon was allowed to speak at Intact 2022, despite multiple hit pieces where he calls the intactivist movement “antisemitic” and “alt right.” Members of his organization Bruchim made up the largest group present at the conference.
Under pressure from Bruchim, multiple intactivists signed a “Statement Opposing Antisemitism Within The Genital Autonomy Movement,” which calls ideas from Clopper’s play antisemitic. However, statement author Tim Hammond says that Clopper “should have been able to make his presentation,” adding that he respects Eric Clopper.
Though banned from presenting, Clopper was allowed to attend Intact 2022. Multiple conference attendees observed Ungar-Sargon and Clopper speaking with each other at the event. “I know there was a rift between Eliyahu and Eric,” Hammond said. “From what Eric told me they had a very good conversation and have somewhat healed that rift.”
In an email to Conte News, Eric Clopper said that he considers himself and Ungar-Sargon “allies in the movement. Moreover, I have great respect for Eli.” He also added that “any inaccurate perceptions existing in 2022, when I was uninvited to give a presentation” had been “transcended.”
Other intactivists paint a darker picture. “Eliyahu has threatened negative media attention in the past,” said one activist who wished to remain anonymous, fearing retaliation. “Everyone is terrified of him… Eric knew he had to submit or be kicked out of the movement. He practically begged Eli for mercy.”
Both Clopper and Hammond did not clarify exactly what “inaccurate perceptions” had been cleared up or whether or not Clopper’s performance was still considered antisemitic according to Bruchim’s public statement.
Regardless, it is evident that Clopper, who took the stage of Harvard’s Sanders Theater to declare war on what he referred to as a “genital mutilation cult,” has chosen to surrender and seek peace.
Intact 2022 conference organizers Intact America Executive Director Georganne Chapin and Vice President Dan Bollinger did respond to requests for comment from Conte News.
